Y.G. receives the Andrew Sabin Family Award (class of 2021)

Established in 2015 through a generous $30 million endowment, the fellowship program aims to encourage creativity, innovation and impactful cancer research in the categories of basic science, clinical, physician-scientist, and population and quantitative science. Andrew Sabin, of East Hampton, New York, has been a member of the MD Anderson Cancer Center Board of Visitors since 2005.

Y.G. received UT System Rising STARs Award

Yejing received UT System Rising STARs award in the amount of $250,000, funded from Permanent University Fund Bond proceeds (LERR funds). The Faculty STARs Program has evolved and expanded from the original proposal approved by The University of Texas System Board of Regents in August 2004, with the goal of helping purchase state-of-the-art research equipment and making necessary laboratory renovations to encourage faculty members to perform their research at U. T. institutions.

Y.G. Invited speaker at Salk Institute Usha Mahajani symposium

Yejing has been invited to give a talk in the 30th Annual Usha Mahajani Symposium on Molecular Medicine, to be held at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies on Friday, September 7, 2018. The prestigious Usha Mahajani Symposium is a joint effort between UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center, the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute and the Salk Institute for Biological Sciences. It was named in honor of Dr. Usha Mahajani, who died of breast cancer at a young age. Since its inception in 1989, the Symposium has become a major scientific event in the San Diego area with attendance reaching 300-400 participants, including students, postdocs, faculty and members of the local scientific community. This year’s topic is “Cancer, the Wound that Does Not Heal”, echoing the central hypothesis the Ge Lab’s research has been interested in.

CPRIT Awarded a $2M Recruitment Grant to Y.G.

Texas voters overwhelmingly approved a constitutional amendment in 2007 establishing the CPRIT (Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas) funding and authorizing the state to issue $3 billion in bonds to fund groundbreaking cancer research and prevention programs and services in the state of Texas. As of Aug 24, 2018, with the approval of 64 new research, product development, and prevention grants totaling more than $177 million, the CPRIT has reached a new milestone of $2.15 billion of awards. Among them, Dr. Yejing Ge has been awarded $2,000,000 (over five years) for her recruitment to MD Anderson Cancer Center.
